Educated at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Alawi is based in Berlin, specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. His clinical research focuses on interventional studies regarding the management of analgesia, delirium and sedation in critically ill adults and children. Recently, he worked on an award winning project (funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economy), investigating new, interactive room concepts for a more patient-centered, healing intensive care environment.
Alawi and his colleagues developed a simulation training to bring evidence-based delirium management to the patients bedside. Alawi is a member of the ESICM Working Group on Postoperative Delirium and Cognitive Dysfunction and a founding member of the German Delirium Network.
His research was supported by the Clinician Scientist Program funded by the Charité and the Berlin Institute of Health.
